Nearly lost my whole flock to a cheap feeder I thought was fine
Last month I picked up a plastic treadle feeder on sale for $18. It looked solid and my girls figured it out in a day. But after about 3 weeks I noticed the corn was getting damp inside and kind of clumping. Then two of my hens started acting sluggish. Took them to the vet and it was mild mold poisoning from the feed sitting in a spot that never dried out. The feeder had a lip that trapped moisture. Swapped back to my old metal trough style and they perked up in 4 days. Cost me $60 in vet bills to learn cheap hardware can kill. Anyone else had a feeder or waterer hold moisture and cause health issues?
