I was at the feed store in Bend and saw a guy with a bucket of kitchen scraps for his flock
He was buying a 50 pound bag of layer feed and told the clerk he only needed half as much now. He said, 'My girls get all the veggie peels and leftover rice, cuts my feed bill by about forty bucks a month.' I started doing the same thing last fall, and it's true. My six hens go through feed way slower now. What other kitchen leftovers do you all give your chickens?

Forty bucks a month is a HUGE savings. That guy must have a massive flock to cut his feed that much. Makes me wonder what else he's feeding them.

Did you see that article about people using expired produce from grocery stores?

Remember my neighbor tried that with some old lettuce. Ended up with a fridge that smelled like a swamp for a week. Guess you really have to know what you're doing.
