I finally chose a 6 foot tall welded wire fence over chicken wire for my run in Phoenix after a coyote got my last hen.
It cost me about $450 in materials and a weekend to build, but I haven't lost a single bird in the 8 months since, so what other predator-proofing upgrades have actually been worth the money for you guys?

That welded wire fence is a solid move, I did something similar after a raccoon got in. My neighbor swore by putting a line of pavers around the outside edge of the fence to stop things from digging under, so I tried that too. It was a lot of work hauling those blocks, but it gave me real peace of mind. What kind of latch system did you use on your gate?

That paver tip from your neighbor is smart, did you have to dig a trench first like terry_shah17 probably did?

Feel for you losing that hen, coyotes are relentless out here. Your fence upgrade sounds exactly like the kind of solid move that actually works. Spending that weekend to get it done right must have felt so worth it once you saw it holding up.
