Got my first egg from a rescue hen and it meant more than I expected
I took in a battery hen about 4 weeks ago from a local rehoming group in Fort Worth. She was pretty rough looking, missing feathers and scared of everything. Last Tuesday morning I went out to feed them and there it was, this tiny pale egg sitting in the corner of the coop. I actually teared up a little, which felt silly. I called my neighbor over just to show her and she laughed at me but then asked if she could hold it. It was like this little sign that the hen finally felt safe enough to settle in. Has anyone else gotten emotional over a first egg from a rescue bird, or is it just me? Her name is Dottie and she still wont let me touch her, but she comes closer every day now. Any tips on making her more comfortable with being handled?
