Finally got my first egg after 6 months of waiting
I was starting to think my Buff Orpington, Henrietta, was never gonna lay. My buddy kept telling me to be patient, that some breeds just take longer. This morning I went out to refill the waterer and there it was, a little brown egg sitting in the nesting box. I cracked it open for breakfast and it had the deepest orange yolk I've ever seen, totally worth the wait. Anyone else have a chicken that took forever to start laying?

Oh come on, it's an egg, not a Nobel prize. I've had chickens for years and some of mine laid at 5 months, some at 8 months, it's really not a big deal. The orange yolk thing is mostly about what you feed them anyway, not how long they waited. People act like their hen is doing some kind of miracle when really it's just biology doing its thing. I swear some of you treat your backyard flock like they're Olympic athletes or something.

Oh man, my friend Sarah was all proud her hen laid this tiny egg at like 6 months, and she was treating it like some huge milestone. Then her other hen just dropped a normal one the next day and she was like, "okay I guess it's just eggs." It's really not that deep.
