That guy on the JMT forum told me to skip the bear canister. Big mistake.
Some user named SierraSam said I could get away with a hang near Donohue Pass. Day three a marmot chewed through my stuff sack and took my tortillas. Anyone else had their gear wrecked after following bad advice from strangers online?

Oh man, same thing happened to me near Thousand Island Lake. Got the same "just hang it" advice from a Facebook group. Woke up to a bear standing on his hind legs snatching my whole food bag. Game over. Had to hitchhike out to Mammoth for supplies. Now I'm a hardcore bear can guy. Learned my lesson the hard way.

@uma_lopez "hardcore bear can guy" now lmao. Did you see the bear coming or did you just hear the bag ripping? Trying to figure out if it's even worth trying to hang if you gotta be dead silent.
