Serious question, did anyone else carry their bear can at the BOTTOM of their pack for a whole season before someone at a shelter in Vermont pointed out it's supposed to go on top
I hiked 180 miles of the Long Trail with my food weight sitting low and my back wrecked, and a guy named Dale just stared at me and said "you know that goes up top, right?" so now I'm wondering how long everyone else took to figure this out.
Watched a guy on YouTube say he did the same thing for like two months on the AT before someone told him. The pack makers don't help either, most of them never tell you where the can is supposed to sit. Weight high and close to your spine is the whole point, that's the basic rule for any heavy load. Putting a five pound can at the bottom turns your pack into a pendulum and your shoulders pay for it all day. Dale did you a favor, even if he did it like a jerk.
