Question about packing for the Enchantments loop
I was halfway up Aasgard Pass with my 55-liter pack feeling like I was hauling bricks. A guy coming down with a much smaller pack asked if I was moving in. He said he does the loop every fall with just a 38-liter bag and a tarp. That got me thinking. I checked my stuff at the next stop and realized I had packed three pairs of socks for a two-night trip and a full cookset when I only needed a pot. Has anyone else cut their pack weight way down for that route? What did you leave behind?

That guy with the tarp is one bad storm away from a miserable trip. Some of us like having dry socks and a hot meal.

Ever wonder if that guy's 38-liter pack is just a fanny pack he's wearing on his back? I've met those tarp people and they're built different, probably sleep on a bed of pine cones at home. But seriously, cutting weight is smart, just maybe not down to a glorified trash bag like that. Fiona_scott44 has a point about storms, but you can ditch a lot without going full survivalist. I swapped my heavy tent for a light one-man and felt like I was cheating. The real trick is asking if each thing will actually get used, not just if it might be nice to have.
