Worst shift of my career happened on a Tuesday in Tulsa

I was tracing a short in a Cessna 172 and found a dead mouse that had chewed thru three bundles of wires. Took me 7 hours to fix and the owner asked if I could "rush it" because he had a 6 AM flight. Anyone else find random animal damage in the wildest places?

Start by pulling the cowling off and looking for nesting material near the wiring bundles. A shop vac with a narrow tip works great for cleaning out debris before it causes more shorts. Seal up any gaps with silicone or steel wool to keep mice from getting back in.

Steel wool huh? Man, that stuff is like fiberglass mixed with barbed wire. I tried that once after a squirrel got into my shed and chewed through a bunch of extension cords. My hands itched for two days just from handling the roll. Though I gotta say, it worked. The little bugger never came back. But the silicone part, that's the real trick. You gotta make sure you're not just sealing the big gaps either, those little one inch holes near the frame are the sneaky ones.
