Watched a 737 lose half its display stack during a test in Phoenix last spring

We were cycling the MMR for a GPS crosscheck and the pilot side MFD just went black, then the captain's PFD flickered and died a second later. Turned out a ground strap in the backshell of the LRU connector had snapped and was shorting the ARINC 429 bus - has anyone else seen a bad backshell cause a cascading display failure like that?

Honestly, I read something a while back about a similar issue with the ARINC 429 bus getting shorted by a bad ground strap in the connector. Sounds like it's a known weak point on those older display setups.

Reminds me of a flaky MAP sensor ground on a Chevy I had.
