Unpopular opinion: Reading wiring diagrams upside down in cramped cockpits is a skill no one teaches.

You just have to figure it out through trial and error.

My old CFI called it contortionist literacy.

Upside down? How does anyone get that right in such a tight spot? I'd probably wire the whole thing backwards.

Piper's got a point with that term. It's like your brain and body have to learn a whole new language when you're squeezed into a corner. You end up mapping the wires in your head before you even touch them, because seeing it straight on is just not an option. That mental picture you build is what keeps you from crossing the feeds, so to speak. Plus, there's a lot of feeling around and hoping you remembered the color code right (I haven't always).
