Question about the 'don't bother with the manual, just tag it and let bench test figure it out' advice I got from a 22 year guy
So I had a pitot static test last week on a King Air and the left airspeed indicator was reading about 8 knots low on the climb check. I pulled the LRU and a senior guy in my shop, 22 years in, tells me straight up, "don't waste time on the manual, tag it, bench will sort it out." I listened because he's been doing this since I was in middle school. Two days later bench sends it back NFF. So now I've got a perfectly good indicator, a logbook entry saying nothing was found, and a plane that still reads low. Turns out the leak was at the static quick disconnect behind the panel the whole time, and all I had to do was pull the maintenance manual and do the leak check right. I ate about 6 hours of downtime and looked like an idiot in front of the crew chief. Not blaming the old guy, he's saved my tail plenty of times, but that one bit of advice cost me. Any of you had a senior tech hand you a shortcut that backfired?

Man, that stings because the guy was trying to save you time and it cost you double. Been there with the "he's been doing this forever" advice that turns out to be a shortcut straight into a wall.
