Old timer told me to stop chasing phantom grounds and start from the connector
Guy had 30 years on me and watched me swap three LRUs on a King Air before he said 'son you're guessing'. First thing he showed me was to check pin condition at the connector before touching anything else. Has anyone else had an old head save them hours with one simple tip?

Phantom grounds" sounds dramatic for a dirty pin.

Right? That's what I'm saying! I had a whole bag of what I thought was some fancy single-origin blend from a local roaster and I kept getting this weird metallic taste in my morning cup. I took the whole thing back to the shop and the barista just looked at the basket and was like "Oh, that's just old coffee oils and fines stuck in the burrs." Made me feel like such a rookie. I spent like two hours online reading about "phantom grounds" and it's literally just residue that builds up over time and gets all rancid. No mystery ghost coffee, just me being lazy about cleaning my grinder. Honestly, naming it something dramatic just makes it sound like a real problem instead of admitting I'm bad at maintenance.
