I finally caved and visited the avionics shop at KSEE (Gillespie Field) last weekend

I always thought those little GA avionics shops couldn't handle anything past a basic radio swap, but the guy there showed me a full Garmin G5000 retrofit they did on a Cessna 340, and I gotta admit I was dead wrong. Has anyone else had their mind changed by a shop that looked small-time from the outside?

Did you ask to see their FCC repair station cert on the wall? That's usually the tell if they're legit for bigger jobs like that. I've learned the hard way to always ask for references on their first glass panel install, not just the flashy photos.

Heard a similar story about a podunk shop up in Oregon doing wild panel upgrades...
