Caught a guy testing a GPS antenna with his multimeter set to ohms

He was getting a reading of 5 ohms and thought it was shorted, but I had to explain that antennas aren't resistors and you can't just measure them like a wire - has anyone else seen people treat avionics gear like basic auto electric?

Caught a guy testing a GPS antenna with his multimeter set to ohms" - man, that hurts to read. I've seen people do the same thing with VOR antennas and it always makes me cringe. You just want to gently steer them away from the avionics bay before they break something expensive.

Ah man, I gotta push back a little on this one @troy996. Testing a GPS antenna with a multimeter on ohms is actually a good quick check to see if there's a short or open circuit before you get into fancier gear. Yeah you can't measure the antenna's actual performance that way, but it's a legit first step to catch obvious wiring problems. Not everyone has a network analyzer handy, you know?
