Shoutout to the dispatcher in Kansas City who caught my car hauler brake issue before I left the lot
I was picking up a load of three cars in Kansas City last Tuesday and right as I'm about to pull out, the dispatcher walks around my trailer and points at the rear axle and says "you got one brake chamber leaking air." Sure enough I crawl under there and the diaphragm was shot, hissing every time I hit the pedal. If I had rolled out on I-70 with that, I would have lost air pressure on a downhill grade and that is a bad day waiting to happen. I called a mobile guy out of Grandview and $185 later I was back in business, but it cost me about four hours of sitting in a truck stop lot. The thing is, I do my pre-trip every morning and I missed it, probably because I was rushing to beat the 2pm cutoff. Now I do a full air test with the engine off before every pickup, not just a quick walk around. Has anyone else had a leak sneak up on them like that, and how do you check for it quickly when you are in a hurry?
