TIL auto transport brokers keep as much as 40% of what you pay, and now I can't decide who's actually right
A rep at a broker in Phoenix let slip that the driver only saw about $700 of my $1,250 quote, which sounds like a ripoff until you realize brokers are the ones who find a truck at all. Is it fair for the middleman to take that much, or should everyone just book with truckers direct and cut out the guesswork?
Learned this same lesson buying a car once, the salesman kept pushing the "internet price" and I could not figure out who was actually setting it. Turns out three different people were getting a cut and none of them touched the car. Brokers finding the truck is a real service, but 40% feels like they are getting paid more than the guy doing the actual driving.
