Paid $620 for a water pump on my 2014 Jetta, warranty wouldn't cover the tow to the dealer
Back in March my water pump blew on I-90 near Rochester and the extended warranty I bought 2 years ago covered the repair but not the $180 tow to their approved shop. I had to fight for 3 weeks just to get a straight answer on why towing was excluded when the paperwork clearly listed roadside help. Has anyone actually gotten a warranty company to pay for a tow without jumping through hoops?
The trick with these warranty places is that the tow is usually handled by a totally different company than the repair side, even if the paperwork makes it look like one big package. So when you call about the tow, you're talking to some call center that has no idea what your repair contract even says. Best move is to call the warranty company first, before you let anyone hook your car up, and make them give you a claim number for the tow over the phone. If you pay out of pocket first and try to get paid back later, you're basically begging at that point. Learned that one the hard way with a busted radiator a few years back.
