My uncle swore by 3,000 mile oil changes, and my mechanic in Denver says that's throwing money away
My uncle ran a body shop for 30 years and always hammered home the 3,000 mile oil change rule, so I did that for almost a decade on my old Corolla. Last spring I mentioned it to my mechanic Dave here in Denver and he laughed, said with today's oils I can easily push 7,500 miles between changes. I was nervous but tried it, and 40,000 miles later the engine still runs clean with no burning or noise. Now I'm wondering if I wasted hundreds of dollars over the years listening to old advice. Has anyone else had their mechanic tell them something totally different from what they grew up hearing?
