I thought the $5 cabin air filter swap was a scam, then my AC stopped smelling like a wet dog
A guy at the parts counter in Fresno told me to just buy the cheap $5 cabin filter instead of the $28 one the dealer wanted, and I honestly figured he was just trying to move stock. My 2016 Corolla had been blowing that musty sock smell for about two months and the dealer quoted me $89 for the job plus the filter. I watched a 6 minute video, popped the glovebox down, and had the old one out in maybe 10 minutes. It was packed with leaves, a dead moth, and what looked like 4 years of dust, and the new one killed the smell on the first drive. Has anyone else noticed the dealer markup on this stuff, or did I just get lucky with my parts guy?
