Update: a 15 minute brake job turned into 6 hours because of one rounded bolt
Last Saturday I was doing rear pads and rotors on a 2013 Civic in my garage in Fresno, and everything went fine until one caliper bracket bolt rounded off on me. I tried a 6 point socket, then a bolt extractor, then heat, and nothing budged for almost two hours. I finally had to cut the head off with a grinder, pull the bracket, and chase the threads with a tap before I could even start putting new parts on. Total time from jack stands up to wheels back down was just under 6 hours, and my hand still hurts from the grinder. What is your go to trick for a bolt that is already past the point of a normal socket?
