Threw $400 at a 'rebuilt' alternator that died in 3 months

Bought a remanufactured alternator from a parts house, slapped it on a customer's F-150, and it crapped out during a test drive. Took me 6 hours to diagnose and replace it again under warranty. Has anyone else stopped buying remans from certain brands?

$400 for 3 months works out to like $4.33 a day, which is almost as bad as renting a movie from Blockbuster back in the day. @ivan_perez is right, those local rebuild shops know what they're doing because they actually bench test them before you leave the parking lot.

Man, that SUCKS. I've had the best luck with OEM rebuilds from a local shop, even if they cost a little more upfront.
