Stripped my 3rd oil pan drain plug before the light bulb went off

I've been torquing drain plugs by feel for 12 years, and after ruining my third pan in a row on Subarus I finally grabbed the manual. Turns out the spec is like 29 ft-lbs, not the gorilla arm approach I was using. Anyone else out there just now realizing they've been over-tightening since day one?

Bought a torque wrench after my second stripped pan and never looked back. It takes maybe two extra minutes, but the peace of mind is worth every second. Now I just follow the spec and save myself the headache of dropping the pan to fix things.
