Still think OEM parts are always worth the extra money? Not after last month.
I had a 2012 F-150 in the shop with a bad alternator. Customer insisted on the Motorcraft one for $380 instead of the AC Delco rebuild for $120. Three weeks later it failed, and I had to eat the labor to swap it back out. AC Delco one has been running fine for 8 years in my own truck up in Burlington. Anyone else seen OEM stuff crap out way faster than the cheaper alternatives?

EXACTLY this happened to me with a water pump on my old Silverado. Paid top dollar for a "Genuine GM" part that was dead in 6 months. The cheapo Duralast one I swapped in has been ticking along for 3 years now WITHOUT a single problem. It's like the OEM stuff is made by the lowest bidder just to get past the warranty period or something. I've started buying the mid-range brands instead and honestly my repair bills have gone way down.
