Shoutout to that thermostat gasket I didn't replace

Tried swapping a thermostat on a 2012 Ford Focus yesterday and figured the old gasket looked fine, so I reused it. Drove five miles and it started pissing coolant everywhere near the highway onramp. Anyone else learn the hard way that $5 gaskets are always worth the extra five minutes?

Nah, you're just not confident enough. If you torque it right and the old gasket isn't cracked, it'll hold fine. Saved myself $5 plenty of times doing this.

Maybe not that serious, @iris_green84, but I've seen cheap gaskets fail even when they looked fine.
