Serious question, how do you feel about serpentine belt tools these days?

I remember back in the 90s i would fight those belts with a long breaker bar and cuss up a storm. My old shop buddy swore by the fancy clamp style tools but i thought they were a gimmick. Last month i had to swap a belt on a 2017 Ford Explorer in a cramped garage and finally caved to try one. Now i feel stupid for wasting 20 years doing it the hard way. Has anyone else had a tool change your mind like that?

That Ford Explorer is a nightmare with the tensioner location lol. Did you go with the ratcheting style or the one with the flex head? I tried a GearWrench one last year and it felt like cheating but i still keep a long bar in the truck just in case.

Hold on, did you have issues with the flex head slipping on that tensioner? I went with the ratcheting style first because i was sick of fighting the angle, but i had to switch to a flex head because there just wasnt enough room to swing it. I actually stripped one of the bolts on my neighbor's 2016 trying to get enough torque with that long bar you mentioned. Did you have to pull the fan shroud or did you find a way to get in there from underneath?
