Remembering the week we fixed that old Ford flathead V8
It was about 15 years ago, a guy brought in a 1951 F-1 pickup that hadn't run in decades. We spent three days just cleaning gunk out of the oil galleries with solvent and pipe cleaners, but hearing that thing fire up on the shop floor was pure magic. Do you still get those kinds of projects anymore, or is it all just module swaps now?

Miss that feeling of bringing something back to life with your own hands.

Module swaps now" is the sad truth for most shops. I miss when fixing a car meant actually cleaning parts instead of just plugging in a computer. It feels like we traded wrenches for USB cables.

Remember when a "code" meant a piece of dirt in a carb jet? Now it's just a menu on a scan tool. My diagnostic process is basically turning the car off and on again. I've got more USB adapters than 10mm sockets at this point. The only thing I'm cleaning is the dust off my laptop screen.
