Rant: I paid $85 for a code reader that told me what my $12 vacuum gauge already knew
Two weeks ago a 2011 Civic came in with a rough idle and I figured why not treat myself, so I grabbed one of those scan tools off the truck for $85. Pulled codes, got a P0301 misfire, and felt real smart for about ten minutes. Then I hooked up my old vacuum gauge, saw the needle bouncing at 12 inHg, and had the burnt valve diagnosed before the scanner even finished its little loading screen. So now the $85 thing sits in my drawer and my $12 gauge is still the first tool I grab. Any of you actually get your money's worth out of those fancy readers, or am I just old and cheap?
