Independent shop vs. dealer for a 2018 turbo, who is right after my $2,400 quote?
Last week my 2018 Ford Focus turbo started dumping coolant at the water pump, and the dealer in Portland quoted me $2,400 for the pump, timing belt, and labor. Three years ago I had a similar job on an old Subaru done at Joe's Auto down the street for half that, and it ran fine until I sold it. But the dealer says their parts and diag come with a 2 year warranty that Joe's can't match, and they found a small oil leak I'd never seen. I get that specialists know the quirks, but is the extra grand really worth it for a car with 80k miles and no dealer history? Has anyone else had a dealer quote that made you question if you're paying for the name or the actual work?
