Had a customer call me out for reusing crush washers on oil changes
About three months back a guy in an F-150 watched me put an old crush washer back on and said 'you know those are one-time use, right?' I always thought it was fine but now I swap them every single time, has anyone else had a customer teach them something basic they should have known?

I used to think crush washers could be reused a few times too... never had a leak so figured it was fine. But that customer calling you out made me rethink it, now I swap them every time just to be safe. Better to spend a few bucks than risk a mess or a pissed off engine later.

Nah man, I'm not buying that it's that serious. I've reused crush washers plenty of times and never had a single leak or issue. Grabbed one from an old oil change, stuck it on a friend's car, it was fine for two years until he sold it.
I get why some guys swap them every time, especially if they're being extra cautious or working on something expensive. But for a daily driver that's not worth a second thought? It's a waste of time and money, honestly. If it doesn't leak, it's fine.
People act like a crush washer is a ticking time bomb or something. It's just a piece of soft metal, not a head gasket.
