Warning: cheap clear coat is failing on 3 of my last 5 jobs

I've been using a bargain brand clear coat for about 8 months now and three customers came back with peeling in under 6 months. One guy in Austin had his truck bed looking like a puzzle piece after a single hot summer. Check the thinner ratio on those budget cans, they flash off way faster than the label says. Has anyone else seen this with the 2K stuff from discount suppliers?

Oh man, I gotta stop you right there on the thinner ratio thing. That's not really the issue with those budget 2K clears. The real problem is usually the hardener to clear mix, not the thinner. Those discount kits have a real cheap hardener that just doesn't crosslink right when it's hot out. You can mess with thinner all day and it won't fix a bad hardener. The flash off thing is just a side effect, not the cause. I've tested a few of those cheap clears with a viscosity cup and even with perfect mix they still peel, it's the resin quality that's junk.
