Unpopular opinion: That fancy German clear coat is overrated

Had a 2023 Mercedes GLC come in last month with a rear quarter panel scrape. Used their OEM clear coat system, exactly by the book, and it still orange peeled worse than a $50 Sherwin-Williams single stage. Spent an extra 3 hours wet sanding and buffing just to match the factory finish. Has anyone else had better luck with aftermarket urethane clears on these newer Euro cars?

Stop chasing that OEM clear for German cars. Tried the Glasurit 90 line on a 2022 Audi and it laid down like crap, had to recoat the whole panel. Switched to Spies Hecker premium clear and it flows out way better, almost no orange peel straight out of the gun. The factory stuff is just too fussy with temperature and humidity, not worth the headache. Aftermarket urethanes just work better for real world shop conditions.

Yeah the Glasurit is a nightmare... Spies Hecker flows way better for sure.
