Two-tone respray on a 2007 F-150 showed me my primer game was weak
Picked up a job last spring for a 2007 F-150, two-tone with that tan lower body line. Owner wanted the faded clear fixed, but when I stripped the lower section, I found old fish eyes from a respray somebody did back in 2019. I rushed the primer stage, used a product I'd never tried before because the supplier was out of my usual stuff. After the base and clear, those spots came back like ghosts, had to block it all down and redo it from scratch. Took three extra days and about $140 in material. Anyone else have a product switch bite them like that, or is it just me who learns the hard way?
How long did it take before you noticed the fish eyes coming back through the new primer? Seems like a product switch mid job is risky, but I wonder if the old contamination was the real problem and not the primer itself. Did you strip all the way down to bare metal or just scuff the old respray?
