Tried a heat gun on a dented Civic fender instead of my stud welder and the paint bubbled off in one big sheet
I had a 2016 Civic with a grapefruit sized dent on the rear quarter and figured I would save time by warming it up and pushing it out from the back. I set the gun around 400 degrees and within maybe 20 seconds the clear coat turned white and lifted right off, so now I am looking at a full panel respray on a job I quoted at $650. Has anyone here had luck with a heat gun on factory paint or should I just eat the cost and go back to pulling studs like I always did?
Man I did the exact same thing on a Corolla door years back and watched the paint peel off like a sticker. Heat guns and factory paint just don't mix, the clear coat gives up way before the metal moves. Stick with the stud welder, at least that only leaves tiny holes you can fill.
