Spent 4 hours chasing a ground fault on a 2018 Silverado tail light...

Turned out to be a tiny crack in the plastic housing letting moisture in, but I had already replaced the bulb, checked the fuse box, and traced the whole harness twice. By the time I figured it out I was already an hour past closing time and my back was killing me from leaning over the bumper. Has anyone else had a simple electrical issue turn into a whole afternoon because you overlooked something stupid like that?

Honestly, I've been there with a trailer wiring issue on my old Ford. Ended up chasing a phantom short for like 3 hours before I noticed the plug had a tiny bit of corrosion where the wire met the pin. Ngl, it's always the dumb stuff you overlook first that takes the longest to find. Tbh, now I start with a really good visual check of all the connections and housings before I even break out the meter. Saves me a ton of back pain and wasted time.

The crack in the housing is a CLASSIC one, I've wasted a whole Saturday on a similar thing with a brake light on a Ram. My trick now is to spray the whole tail light assembly with soapy water while it's still on the truck, you'll see bubbles form at the crack instantly. Also invest in a cheap thermal camera for your phone, it can spot a hot connection or moisture intrusion in seconds and save you from tracing harnesses for hours.
