My old boss in Cleveland swore by using a heat gun on plastic bumpers before sanding, but my new shop foreman says that's a great way to warp them. Who's right?

Yeah, I saw a video where a guy warped a bumper doing that. It seems like a real gamble with modern plastics.

Man, Craig's got it right with the temperature thing. You basically have to treat it like a hair dryer on the lowest setting, and even then it's risky. I'd skip the heat gun and just use a good plastic prep cleaner instead.

Ugh, that's a tough spot to be in. My last foreman was the same way, always preaching about the heat gun trick. But honestly, I've seen some bumpers get a little soft and weird if you're not super careful with the temp. Maybe it depends on the exact plastic?
