My cousin swore by using a heat gun on old clear coat before sanding, said it saved him hours. Tried it on a 2005 Civic hood and it just made the paint bubble.

Honestly, that bit about shortcuts backfiring is so true. I see it all the time with people trying to fix things around the house. They watch one video and skip all the prep work, then end up with a bigger mess than they started with.

Oh man, that's rough. My buddy tried that same trick on his old truck's roof. He got the gun way too close, said it looked like a bad sunburn for a second before the whole thing wrinkled up. Had to strip it all down to bare metal after that, which totally defeated the purpose. Sometimes those shortcuts just backfire, you know? Heat guns are no joke on factory paint.

Yeah it's like that with everything now. People skip steps on recipes and wonder why the cake fell. They don't read the manual before putting furniture together and end up with extra bolts. It's all about rushing to the finish line without doing the work in the middle. That paint story is just the car version of a collapsed cake.
