Just talked to a retired painter at the diner near my shop in Cincinnati
He said 'you're not fixing dents, you're fixing someone's day' and it made me slow down on a simple quarter panel job. Anyone else have a small thing a customer said that changed how you work?

Fixing someone's day, huh? That's a lot of pressure for a guy with a hammer and some bondo.

Pressure? Nah, it's the opposite. That hammer and bondo isn't about pressure, it's about solving a real problem they can see and touch. You show up, you fix the thing that's been bugging them every single day. It's not some vague promise, it's a done deal by lunchtime. That's a pretty solid way to make a day better, no drama needed.

You really think someone who's been staring at a cracked fender or a hole in their drywall for six months is gonna feel better just because a stranger shows up with some putty? Half the time they're watching you like a hawk because they've been burned by a shoddy job before. If you mess it up, you didn't fix their day, you made it worse and now they gotta deal with you again. That's not pressure?
