I finally got a paint gun to spray backwards

Was tinting a clear in the booth, pulled the trigger, and it blew air out the fluid tip instead of the cap. My apprentice just stared and said, 'Is it supposed to do that?' Anyone know what causes that on a SATA 5000?

Oh man, that "blew air out the fluid tip" line gave me flashbacks. That's the worst feeling in the booth, especially with someone watching. On that SATA, it's almost always the fluid needle not seating right because of dried paint or a damaged tip. You gotta pull it apart, clean the needle and seat really well, and check for any nicks. Hope you got it sorted fast.

Cleaned the needle seat with some thinner and a q tip, that usually fixes it. Had the same thing happen last month and it was just a tiny bit of dried clear blocking it.

Oh wow, I always thought that was a sign of a bad air cap. But after seeing @tylerw92's tip about the needle seat, I tried it last time mine acted up. Sure enough, a tiny speck of hardened sealer was stuck in there. A good clean with some lacquer thinner on a rag fixed it right up.
