Had to choose between a full quarter panel replacement or a section repair on a 2018 Silverado
Honestly, the customer wanted it done fast and cheap, but the damage was right at the wheel arch. I picked the section repair to keep it under $1500 and save the factory spot welds. It took me about two hours longer than a full panel would have, but the fit was way better. Has anyone else had a tough call like that on a truck repair?

Made the same call on a 2015 F-150 last month. Saving the factory welds is almost always worth the extra time, especially when the customer is pushing for a budget fix. That wheel arch area is a nightmare for rust if the new panel isn't perfect. You saved that truck a lot of future problems.

Wait, a 2015 F-150 already needs that kind of work? That's barely ten years old.

That $1500 budget is a real tightrope walk, honestly. I bet the customer didn't blink at the price but would have lost it if you went over. @olivia_chen35, I bet that 2015 F-150 owner is still on the fence about driving a truck that's barely broken in, but hey, at least they're not the one crawling under it with a grinder. Saving those factory spot welds is like keeping the original paint on a classic car - it just feels less cursed. Did the customer even notice the extra time, or were they just happy to not have to buy a whole new panel?
