Clearcoat peeled on a 2019 Tacoma after 3 months, blaming the hardener

Painted a tailgate for a customer back in July, used the same brand I always do. Looked perfect when it left. He rolls in yesterday with patches of clear just flaking off near the bed rail. Shop temp was fine, mixed ratio was right, but I'm wondering if my hardener sat too long. I checked the date on the can and it was from last spring. Since when does clear go bad that fast? Anyone else had a batch fail like that or did I just cheap out on the wrong bottle?
