Cheap paint gun gamble in St. Louis, actually worked
Picked up a $60 HVLP gun off the truck last month, figured it'd be worthless for clear coat. Laid down a full fender repair with it and the finish laid out flatter than my $400 Devilbiss. Anyone else had luck with budget guns holding up past a one-job weekend?

That 60 dollar gun is gonna bite you in the ass around month three, I've seen it happen with a buddy's cheap turbine setup. The clear lays flat for a day, sure, but the atomization consistency falls apart once the seals start wearing, and you're fighting orange peel on every panel after that. Your 400 dollar DeVilbiss has a rebuild kit and a real warranty, that truck gun is a paperweight if the needle sticks. I'd be shocked if the fluid tip threads even match a standard brand when you need a replacement part. Call me when you're repainting the same fender in six months because the finish micro-cracked, then we'll talk about luck.
