Update: throttle cable froze at 20 degrees on the trail near Duluth
Was out last Tuesday and the cable iced up solid, had to pour hot water from my thermos over it to get moving again. Now I'm running a small silicone boot over the fitting and spraying that de-icer before every ride, anyone else do something similar for cold weather rides?

Last Tuesday was brutal up there, we got maybe six inches of that wet lake-effect stuff and my buddy's throttle stuck wide open for a second on the climb out of Lester Park. That silicone boot idea is smart, but what do you do when the storm hits mid-ride and you're already twenty miles from the truck? I've tried the de-icer spray too, it works for about an hour then it's back to square one. Do you carry a second thermos of hot water for the return trip, or are you just gambling on the weather holding?
