Tried studding my own tires for ice riding. Got mixed results.
Put 120 studs on my Arctic Cat last weekend. Handled sharp corners way better but threw a dozen studs on the first hardpack trail. Is the extra grip worth losing studs that fast or am I just doing it wrong?

You can drill the holes deeper to seat the studs better. Have a punch?

Deeper holes just mean you're chasing a problem instead of fixing the real one. In my experience, if the studs aren't seating right, it's usually the hole placement, not the depth. People always reach for a bigger hammer or a longer bit instead of checking their layout. It's like trying to fix a leaky faucet by turning the water pressure up. Just move the pilot point over and save yourself the headache later.
