The day I stopped trusting my phone GPS on logging roads, Bend Oregon

I used to just follow Google Maps anywhere, even deep into the Cascades out past Bend. Last spring I was hauling my quad up to a friend's cabin and the route it picked took me down this old logging spur that dead ended at a washed out creek crossing. Took me almost 2 hours to back out, and I gouged my skid plate on a stump. Right then a local in a beat up F-250 came by and said 'that app ain't been on this mountain since 2011'. He showed me his paper MVUM map, the forest service one. Now I keep a laminated one in my door pocket, still use GPS for the highway but once I hit gravel I pull over and look at the paper. Has anyone else had a close call trusting phone maps on forest roads?
