Stuck my Arctic Cat in a swamp last weekend - winch cable snapped

I was crossing what I thought was a shallow mud hole near the Red River last Saturday and the sled just sank like a rock into deep muck. Tried to winch out using a tree but the cable frayed and snapped halfway through the pull, leaving me stuck for 2 hours until a buddy came with a tow strap. Has anyone switched to synthetic rope on their winch and found it holds up better than steel in wet conditions?

That Red River muck has a way of swallowing things whole. Before you swap ropes, check if your winch drum is rusted or burred up - that will shred any rope fast.

That's just the Arctic Cat initiation rite, congrats. Bet that cable snap sounded expensive. Did you at least get a good mud bath out of the deal?
