My first time riding a snowmobile on a frozen lake in Minnesota was terrifying

Last month my buddy Dave took me up to Lake Mille Lacs. I've been on ATVs for years but never a snowmobile on ice. He warned me about the pressure ridges but I hit one going about 30 mph and just about launched off the thing. Scared me so bad I nearly took a spill right into the slush. Has anyone else had a close call with those ridges or am I just a rookie with bad luck?

Man that's rough. Those pressure ridges are no joke, especially when you're not expecting them. I took a bad spill on one up near Ely a few years back, ended up with a bruised rib and a real sour feeling about ice riding for a while. You're not a rookie with bad luck, those things can catch anybody off guard. Dave should have warned you better about the speed factor, hitting them slow is key. Glad you held on and didn't end up in the slush, that's a whole other mess to deal with.

Honestly, I read something just last week about how those ridges form different in different lakes, and that makes them even trickier. Some freeze solid, others are like ice pillows that'll throw you in a second. Glad you're okay, that slush part sounds like a nightmare.
