Helped a neighbor pull his sled out of a frozen creek last week, and he barely said thanks

I was out on the trails near Lake George last weekend and found a guy whose Ski-Doo went through the ice on a sharp turn. I spent about 45 minutes winching him out with my ATV while he just stood there on the bank smoking a cigarette. He muttered something about it being my fault for riding too close, then took off without offering gas money or even a nod. Has anyone else dealt with people who act like you owe them a rescue?

Some people just have no decency. A simple thank you and maybe a twenty for gas is the least you can do after someone pulls you out of a mess like that. Sorry you had to deal with that attitude.

Oh man, I totally get what you're saying. For me, I started keeping a few cheap thank you cards in my glove box after a similar thing happened. That way when I help someone, I just hand them the card with a quick note and my number, and it usually gets a better response. @the_blair I know it stings when they don't even look at you, but maybe try the card trick next time? It breaks the awkwardness and most people actually text a thank you later. One guy even sent a pizza to my house, haha.
