Heated grips vs. heated gloves, which is actually worth it?
I tried those $60 heated grips on my snowmobile last week and they barely kept my fingers warm after 20 minutes in 10 degree weather near Lake Placid. Meanwhile my buddy swears by his $200 battery heated gloves but they died on him halfway through a long ride. Anyone else find one setup clearly better than the other for real cold riding?

Battery heated gloves are a ticking time bomb in real cold. My buddy's pair went dead at 15 miles into a 40 mile snowmobile trip and he couldn't feel his fingers for the rest of the ride. I run cheap heated grips on my sled but I also layer up with wool liners and big handlebar mitts that trap the heat in. The grips alone aren't enough but when you create a pocket of warmth they work great. Have you tried any kind of hand guards or bar mitts to keep the wind off your fingers?

Got caught in a whiteout once on my sled near Tupper Lake, wind chill musta been 30 below easy. I had cheap grips and thought I was toast until I realized my heated vest was keeping my core so warm that the blood actually reaching my fingers made the grips work. Best upgrade I ever made was pairing heated grips with a good vest and those cheap foam hand guards that break if you look at em wrong. Now I just ride with wool liners under summer gloves and the grips on high, never had frozen fingers since.
