A buddy at the trailhead told me my throttle thumb position was making me slower on tight turns
He watched me muscle through a switchback near Iron Mountain and said "you're gripping too high on the lever" so I dropped my thumb down to the pivot point and it cut my cornering time by almost 2 seconds on the next lap.

Read a whole blog post about this from some old desert racer dude. He swore the thumb position changed everything because it lets your fingers wrap the bar better without fighting the lever pivot. I tried it after a buddy said my cornering looked like I was fighting the bike. Dropping my thumb down made those tight single track turns feel way more natural. Your mileage may vary but it worked for me on the rocky stuff out here.

Nah I gotta push back on this. I tried the thumb thing for like three months and my hands cramped up worse than ever. Ended up going back to wrapping my thumb over the top and actually felt way more in control when I had to muscle through a rough section.
